You know you are a personal finance blogger when…

by Melanie

Your credit score matters to you as much as your blog pageviews.

Going over your budget is a recreational activity.

Staying at home and re-calculating your debt free date sounds like a good time.

The first thing you read in the morning is other personal finance blogs.

You want to retire early and show people how they can do it too.

Every non-financial post you write, plagues you with a tinge of guilt.

You check mint.com everyday.

The abbreviation ‘pf’ is as common to you as LOL or OMG.

You use the term “side hustle” (so guilty of this one, but I never even heard of the term before I started blogging)

You talk/think/care about money more than anyone you know.

Investment is not a dirty word.

Most of your post titles start with an interrogative.

You either love or disdain credit cards.

You most likely focus on frugality or creating wealth.

To-do lists and spreadsheets are an art form.

You know your daily interest rate on your debt.

You wonder why some people are so bad with money, and wonder why they don’t “get it”

Are there any others you would add? This post was inspired by Save, Spend,  Splurge’s post ‘Personal Finance Bloggers are Not the Norm’

ha I love this: The abbreviation ‘pf’ is as common to you as LOL or OMG.

I use PF assuming that everyone knows exactly what I’m talking about. And they do! 🙂

Mine would be that when you tell people you are a PF blogger, you don’t actually feel like a nerd because of it, you actually feel pretty cool. 🙂 Like you’re in the know.

for the longest time, I was like what’s pf? LOL! It does seem sorta cool to be a personal finance blogger, even though 90% of the time I don’t know what I’m talking about it. 🙂

I loved this!! I am definitely guilty of checking my phone prior to my morning run to see who’s updated their PF blog that I get to read that day. lol I also use “ROI” in every day dialogue now, and when people inquire about it I state the meaning like I’ve known it all my life. LOL!

I also didn’t know what ROI was before the “pf” community! I check pg blogs before the news or emails!

Ohh I love me some good online calculators to play with!

I use online calculators to adjust my debt free date, to figure out my spending to hourly wage rate, and much more on a DAILY BASIS.

LMAO. Oh man, so many of these are so true for me. #2, #3, #4, #6…

How about you’re familiar with RRSPs, TFSAs, 401ks, Roth IRAs and Superannuation funds, and know which countries actually use them.

Hehe. I am just starting to familiarize myself with those terms. Glad you could see yourself in some of these. 🙂

Mint.com? That’s so yesterday. You need to sign up with Personal Capital and get going with the affiliate program. 🙂
Good to see you up and running. Looking great.

Re: “side hustle”, I’d never heard working extra or making extra money referred to as a “side hustle” before the pf blog-o-sphere. Now I use the term all the time like everyone should know what I’m talking about. Also guilty of knowing what’s going on in the pf blog community better than I know what’s happening in the local news (but usually that’s a good thing, all the news these days is terribly depressing).

I do the same thing with the news! I’m more caught up on blogs.

Every non-financial post your write plagues you with a twinge of guilt – HA! I absolutely feel that way for a second, and then I realize that it’s my blog and I do what I want on it. And I definitely check my Mint smartphone app everyday…

This is funny! 😉 I’m guilty of doing most of these things. My favourite topic of conversation is money and personal finance these days and I think all my friends have had enough and will soon abandon me if I don’t stop, haha!

Oh, this is great. I think the only thing I fail is the fact I hate excel. Spreadsheets terrify me. Not my thing.
