Hello weekend warriors, debt busters, freelance magicians, and jugglers. I hope whatever you are doing today, it is awesome, just like you.
No surprise, but I am working. I am going to be a writing machine today.
First of all, I wanted to share some awesomeness from my friend Laurie at the Frugal Farmer. She has created an e-book on How to Teach Your Kids About Money. For the price of a fancy mocha at Starbucks, you could learn some helpful tips on starting these important conversations with your kids. If you don’t have kids, it’s a great gift for others in your family that do!
Also, because I’ve written so sparsely here, I wanted to share my work elsewhere:
Romantic Weekend Getaways for Couples – Memorial Day is coming up! Ryan and I are going to the coast next weekend and staying at a dirt cheap motel with free breakfasts, and free bikes to ride. I can’t wait!
How to Set Up a Stress Free Savings Plan – Don’t think too much about saving. Just do it!
Don’t Let Debt Get in the Way of Retirement – Seriously, I wish I would have started saving for retirement early. I am now adding $100 a month to my retirement, while aggressively paying off debt.
Also, in other exciting news, I got a haircut. Why is this important? Because I get a haircut once a year, so my last haircut was one year ago. I also decided to do something crazy and get bangs. I haven’t had bangs since 6th grade! My eyes don’t believe my face — I am still on the fence about how I feel about them. But it’s something new!

Cute cut Melanie! I was thinking about getting bangs again myself. The only hard thing is playing beach volleyball. I wear my hair up so much, I’m not sure how it will work. Enjoy you getaway next week!
Love the bangs, Melanie!!! 🙂
A trip to the coast sounds fun, have a wonderful time!
I love your new look! I grew out my bangs 18 years ago when I started college and the last few years, I have debated getting them back, but my hair does not grow fast so I fear that I would get bangs, immediately hate them and then take years to get to a place where I like my hair again.
That was my fear too! I can see bangs working nicely on you. Some longish bangs, or bangs to the side.
Cute cut, hope you grow to love it, bangs and all 🙂
Thanks, dear! 🙂
The bangs look really good on you! And have lots of fun on your trip! It will be well deserved!
Thanks! I can’t wait for this weekend. I’m counting down the days.
I love your new cut, especially the bangs!! Great job, too, with all your freelancing writing gigs – so proud of you, Melanie!
Aww, thanks! That means a lot to me. I still have so far to go, but things are moving!
I like how you described “How to Set Up a Stress Free Savings Plan”. It so simplifies how to save. While it helps to have some strategies, just having a go at it is likely to work. However small, a penny saved is a penny earned.
Exactly. The hardest and most simplest thing to do is just start!
You pull off the bangs well! I decided to try bangs again around three years ago, and I just felt “meh” about them. I don’t really like having my hair in my face and it bothered me that I couldn’t clip them back. I do need a haircut, though…I’ve been putting it off for far too long, trying to save money, but it’s worth it at least once a year!
Thank you! I was desperate for something different. I’m liking them now, but I had to get used to them. We’ll see if they stick around. 😉
I just got my haircut this week too. Though I do it twice a year. But I got it for free on craigslist so I’m happy 🙂
I love the bangs, so cute! The only thing is you can’t maintain them if you only get your hair cut once a year 😉
When I had bangs, I trimed them myself, takes a bit of practice but it saves having to go to the salon every couple of months.
Haha I know! I might be brave and trim them myself, or pay $5 and get them cut. A new skill to learn to save more money. Woot! 🙂
Very nice do! Your hair is so dark and luscious looking! It’s nice to change things once in a while. I haven’t had bangs for a number of years and recently got them too. I’m able to still sweep them to the side somehow, if I want. But my hair’s not as straight as yours, unfortunately, but we always want what we don’t have! heee
It really does look a lot darker. I think I had some residual color from when I dyed my hair 3 years ago! The grass is always greener isn’t it?
Smokin’ hot!
Keep up the great look!
Making me blush! Thanks!
You have a cool bangs melanie hope i have that one too. I have bangs a few months but i cut it because its very awkward not same as yours. Really like your bangs melanie 🙂
Also thinking about going back to a side fringe! I think I look much better with one, but it doesn’t always work with both glasses and contacts (and I wear both – mix it up all the time).
Something to consider for sure. I wear mostly contacts, but sometimes go back to glasses. I bet you’d like good with a side fringe!
