The Suicide Prevention blog tour was created in 2016 in order to bring the personal finance community together to talk about something taboo: debt, depression and suicide.
Several years ago, I noticed that the top search term on my blog was “I want to kill myself because of debt”.
No stranger to depression, I felt compelled to write about the subject and I’ve since received more and more traffic because of it. I get emails and comments weekly from people who are on the brink of suicide and I answer each and every one. I am thankful to have won the Plutus Foundation Service award for this project.
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month so the blog tours take place throughout the month of September.
According to Psychology Today, “People who complete suicide are eight times more likely to be in debt.” This is a problem the personal finance community cannot ignore.
