Dear Debt,
How did we get here? I never wanted to be in a relationship with you, and now we are pushing six years together. I had the best of intentions and never thought it would get this bad. I am sorry if I am disappointing you, but I don’t want you around anymore.
We had fun for a while, but I realize it was all imaginary. I give, and you take, take, take. This relationship is held together by the dreams we used to share– dreams that have been dormant for a long time. I can’t stand to be here anymore, confined to my own misery in a soulless, lifeless relationship. I thought you could take care of me, but in the end we all must take care of ourselves.
Maybe I learned the hard way. Baby, it’s over. I am my own woman. I want the best years of my life back.
Love,
M

Ha! I can totally relate. Like an old loser boyfriend, you definitely don’t need debt in your life!
Yep, DTMFA. (dump the motha–***** ******)
Debt sucks! 🙂
It does! Congrats on being debt free, Michelle. You inspire me to want to get this done asap and keep on side-hustlin’.
It’s definitely one of those things that gets a choke hold on you and weighs you down. 🙁
Yes, it is, although I am trying not to let it! The letters and the pf community have been so helpful, especially you, T!
Lol! Love this! My relationship with debt (which has now spanned 14 years) is sad, tired and lifeless. I want rid!
Glad you enjoyed 🙂 Would you like to write a letter to your debt? If so, check out my Debt Letters guidelines and email me!
This could be a Beyonce song and I love Queen B 😉
That is such a great compliment 🙂
People change, we’ve changed, it’s time to move on! I like it 🙂
Thank you 🙂
Great letter. I can’t wait to divorce my debt in a few years. Having debt is worse then a loser boyfriend.
Yeah, the impacts are longer lasting! Maybe even worse psychologically?
Thank you, it felt great to write! Also, if you’d like to write a divorce debt letter, contact me 🙂
This really goes straight to the heart. Wonderfully written.
Thank you! I am glad you liked it. It feels nice to get that off my chest.
Haha!! I like that: DTMFA!!! Yeah, Debt is like that nagging ex that keeps trying to get back in your life when you have something good going on!
I stole that from Dan Savage from Savage love. I LOVE IT! You always see these people write in about how awful their relationship/partner/marriage is and he always says DTMFA! Debt is so the same way. Trying to ruin things!
I don’t want to dump my debt I want to divorce it and leave it standing in the street while it gets rained on by a single cloud only over its head. Loved the post!
