The Holidays Are Awesome

by Melanie

Unless you are….

Single
Unemployed
Sick
An Alcoholic
On a diet
Can’t go home
Lonely
Family-less
Broke
In Debt
Not religious
A non-consumer
Depressed

Happy Holidays! 🙂 With 20 more days to Christmas, I just want to acknowledge that now is not an easy time for a lot of people. You are not alone and you are not a grinch if you don’t have the Christmas spirit.

Amen (in the most non-religious way it can be meant)!

Beautifully said, friend! It’s a tough time of year even if everything seems to be going well. It’s even more challenging if it’s not. Thanks for saying this.

Thanks, Lindsey. It’s stressful for everyone!

So true. We need to remember this – the holidays can be stressful and downright unpleasant for so many.

Yep! Just thought I’d have some fun illuminating that fact 🙂

I’ve definitely had my share of some non-awesome holidays, so I can relate to some of those things listed. I hope everyone still finds some cheer this year, even if it means just couch-surfing and watching a marathon Alfred Hitchcock shows for a few days (which may or may not be my plans).

I enjoy the stillness of it. Everything is closed and forces you to reflect — that can be hard, too!

Holidays bring out many different emotions for people, so trying to be kind and nice all around just makes life a little better. Thanks for reminding all of us that it’s not all smiles!

I agree! I’m feeling kinda blah lately, but trying to get through it.

This year, I’m only one (maybe two) of the things on this list, last year I was five. Improvement 🙂 Though I guess I’ll always be non-religious.

Glad you are only 2 instead of 5 🙂 That IS an improvement. I am also non-religious.

As an in debt, broke, recently unemployed, non-religious, slightly depressed reader, I love this entry. We usually enjoy Christmas for the family time, but I am just not into it this year.

Glad you enjoyed! I am not really into it either. It evokes a consumerism in me that I can’t afford, nor do I want to participate in. So in turn, I feel lonely and not part of it.

True, the holidays are indeed awesome! Even if one has one or two of the things mentioned in the list, there are still reasons to enjoy the holidays. It is just a matter of positive outlook and perspective.

I think being grateful for what you already have, not desiring what you don’t, is really helpful for that!

Very true, hope you have a good one. I am not into Christmas but under the sun it seems like it is July anyway, except for a day or two, which is just enough. Getting into Christmas from Thanksgiving is something I don’t really relate too, especially when people get so stressed about it.

As an in debt non-religious person, I have to say I still am able to enjoy the holidays. However, if you threw in “can’t go home” onto that list I might be singing a different tune – it’s all about spending time with the people you love!

Well I’d say being a non-consumer during the holidays would be fantastic 🙂
