Dear Debt letter from Bee Debt Free

by Melanie

Hey, everyone! We have an awesome Dear Debt letter from Bee Debt Free. She is working towards paying off her student loans and has 2 degrees. She is swimming in debt and trying to stay above water. She’s also a hustler working a full-time job AND a part-time job– and she blogs! You can follow her on Twitter.  Enjoy and I hope you guys are all having a good week!

Dear Debt,

We need to talk.

I’m not happy with our relationship.  Unfortunately, I can’t afford to kick you to the curb right now.  I have no choice but to let you stay in my life.  Taking up space.  Spending my money.

Of course, I knew what I was getting into.  My friends tried to warn me.  My family told me you were bad news.  I wanted to believe differently.  I wanted them to be wrong.  I thought you’d support me and not take advantage.  But, I was the one who was wrong.  So very wrong.  And now I can’t get rid of you.

You’re like a bad ex-boyfriend that won’t go away.  As if you’re sleeping on my couch as a constant reminder of what I’ve gotten myself into.  Can’t you just leave already?

No, you can’t.  You have nowhere to go.  So here I am, pouring my hard earned money into you. Living a less than luxurious life because you’re in it.  Was that the plan all along?

Here’s the thing.  I’m not going to let you get the best of me.  I didn’t know you very well in the beginning, but I’ve wised up. I’m stronger than you and in control.  It may not be today, but I will be rid of you.  Don’t you forget it.

Until then, mind your manners, follow the rules, and keep quiet.

Yours for the unfortunate next few years,

The girl who is going to BeeDebtFee!

I love this letter. Debt really is like a crazy ex that you just can’t get rid of.

Oh my. Yes, we always do tell ourselves that it’s going to be different with us and plan around the best case scenarios. For most people, the right answer it to just be as risk averse as possible. Thanks for this bit of morning inspiration 🙂

Yep, that’s the plan. Unfortunately, this is going to be a LONG relationship…

Thanks for sharing your story BDF! Sorry to hear that sonofabitch is living on your couch. But with hard work soon enough he’s got to go!

“The girl who is going to Bee Debt Free”.
I just like the way it was written because it connotes strong positivity. I feel like it was written with so much conviction too. That is the kind of spirit those dreaming and working to become debt-free need to have.
