I hate you, debt

by Melanie

This Dear Debt letter is from Kasey at Debt Perception.  I love this poem and am so glad she is participating! If you’d like to participate and write a dear debt letter, contact me! Anonymity respected and you don’t have to be a personal finance blogger. I’m also interested in hearing from people who have recently become debt free.

Dear Debt,

This is a poem inspired by the infamous “10 things I hate about you” because it was just too easy to think of 10 things I hate about you (and Sallie Mae)!

I hate the way you balk over me,

and the way that you don’t care.

I hate the way you set the bar,

I hate it how you’re so unfair.

I hate your big dumb absolutes

and the way you rob me blind.

I hate you so much it makes me sick,

it even sucks my time.

I hate the way you’re always “right.”

I hate it when you lie.

I hate it when your staff just laughs,

even worse when they make me cry.

I hate it when int’rest compounds,

and the fact that you’ll always call.

But mostly I hate that you just won’t go away,

not even close…

not even a little bit…

not even at all.

-Debt Perception

P.S.  I still hate you.

I’m pretty sure she’s in full-on cry mode by the end of the poem, maybe not blubbering but definitely crying. I had to watch it again after writing that poem 🙂

I felt the same way when I was in debt. My debt was always “right” and until I booted it out of my life it was controlling me. Not fun!

I can’t wait to boot debt out of my life! That’s a long way off, unfortunately. I agree with DD, you should write a Dear Debt letter too!
